Growth Begins in Discomfort

Growth Begins in Discomfort

Great things never come from comfort zones.

Think about it. Starting a business from scratch. Taking on a new job role while juggling family responsibilities. Becoming the legal guardian of a loved one. It's not a walk in the park.

But just like learning to ride a bike or drive a car, it's the discomfort that drives us forward. That's where growth happens. That's where we push our boundaries, and that's where we find out what we're truly capable of.

At first, it's tough. You feel like you're out of your depth. You question your ability. You even consider throwing in the towel.

But if you can push through, you'll find that the discomfort starts to fade. You get better, stronger, more knowledgeable. The impossible becomes possible. And that's when you realize, that discomfort isn't something to be fearful of. It's the key to unlocking your greatest potential.

So, next time you're facing a challenge and everything in you is screaming to give up, remember this - growth comes from discomfort. Embrace it. Push through it. The rewards on the other side are worth it.

Here is one thing to remember -

Success often begins with embracing discomfort; it's the path to growth.

Right now I am facing tremendous discomfort learning to build out a one person business or in other words be a solopreneur. But I also know that this discomfort must be embraced if I want to achieve my goal.

On this journey I am having to learn sales, marketing, copywriting, and develop new mindsets. Its exciting but it also can be a bit overwhelming if I allow it.

The key for me currently is applying prior learned skills and disciplines I have already developed into what I am currently doing now. You see the skill of leadership is a meta skill, meaning that everything is better when you learn leadership.

One attribute that is serving me well and keeping hope alive through the discomfort is - vision.

You see learning how to frame a positive big picture vision of the outcome and framing it in a positive manner keeps not only hope alive but keeps me moving.

As you embrace discomfort in your journey one key that I am learning is this.

The foundation of hope rests upon a solid vision.

Vision works two ways in your life: negative or positive.

  • A negative vision = killing hope.

  • A positive vision = instilling hope.

When you fail to lead yourself well you allow the discomfort of the present to overwhelm you, to fill you with anxiety, or to stress you out to the point of never getting started.

Leading yourself means that you create a positive vision which is one that generates feelings and emotions that pull you into the work and not away from it.

Here is what I am doing to lead myself well and maybe this will help you to:

  1. Develop a holistic vision - one that embodies all of your life not some of it.

  2. Develop a vision statement filled with positive affirmations that create positive feelings with in me.

  3. Write in a journal details of my vision happening, the positives of what I want to see, experience, and have as a result of my vision.

This may seem silly to some but what this alone has done for my mental and emotional health this week has been nothing short but - amazing! So don't knock it until you try it.

One last thing to, when doing this be like your child self again and allow yourself to dream without thinking of the cares of life. Go back to a time where there where no limits outside of what you could imagine. I know life may be hitting you hard right now but without a dream you are without hope.

You need to do everything in your power each day to dream and add as many positive elements to that dream as you possibly can. Do not allow life to zap you of your dreams and hope.

Sorry about that small tangent but it is needed as a lot of people have given up on their dreams and have settled for the life they have. I just don't believe that is you if you are reading - so know your best is yet to come!

In conclusion know this.

Vision fuels the resilience needed to endure discomfort.

Whatever you may be facing or challenges you are going through, do not overlook the important of vision.

The way you view something has a tremendous impact on the action you take. Each day your number one goal should be to engage positively with your vision at the start of the day and at least 2x times through out the day.

You will find that when discomfort hits, having a strong vision will serve to fuel your resilience to keep you moving along the path forward.

My hope is that everyone who reads this stays on the path of their dreams, stays the course, and reach their desired vision.
